SIGAROMA: custom software for the sweetgum chain
Why we built our own system to organize producers, plots, documents and balsam lots, and what changes when the records live in one place.
While supporting the sweetgum organizations, the problem wasn't a lack of information but that it was scattered: notebooks, spreadsheets and documents in different hands. Every time a buyer or the ICF asked for a figure, it had to be pieced back together. That's why we built SIGAROMA.
What it does
SIGAROMA keeps in one place:
- the records of producers and plots;
- the documents behind the management and the permits;
- the traceability of the balsam chain, from plot to buyer.
Why custom
Off-the-shelf software makes the organization adapt to it. SIGAROMA was designed the other way round: from how balsam is harvested, collected and sold, and from what reviewers ask for.
What changes
When the records live in one place, answering a buyer stops taking days. And each lot's history is ready for the next audit.
